Decommissioning support

At the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, various projects and work are being carried out by bringing together technologies from around the world in order to carry out safe and reliable decommissioning work. In order to overcome unknown conditions that have never been experienced before, we will support the decommissioning work by developing new technologies in addition to existing technologies.

Tokyo Electric power company Fukushima daiichi nuclear power plant

Using a full-scale replica of part of a nuclear reactor containment vessel installed in our factory, we are developing and supporting technologies such as remote-operated robots for "fuel debris removal." We support safe and reliable decommissioning work with the technology for inspecting and repairing structures inside the nuclear reactor that we have developed over the past quarter century.

One-stop service from design and production to on-site support

Utilizing our specialized knowledge and many years of experience in nuclear reactor internals, we provide a comprehensive range of services, from planning optimal construction methods and techniques, to designing and manufacturing equipment, and providing on-site technical guidance and backup.

Development of remote control robots* for decommissioning work

Taking advantage of the hydraulic technology we have cultivated through the inspection and repair of the inside of nuclear reactors, we have developed a "remote control robot" that can operate under high levels of radiation. Even in dangerous places where people cannot approach, the robot can perform a variety of tasks by taking advantage of its high degree of freedom and flexibility.

Demonstration experiment using full-scale test facility*

This facility, installed within our factory, is a full-scale simulation of the lower part of a nuclear reactor containment vessel where some of the fuel is thought to have melted down. Remote-controlled robots and devices developed by our company can be placed in the full-scale facility, enabling demonstration tests such as confirming the degree to which the required missions are accomplished.

*Supported development work for Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, Ltd. as part of work for Tokyo Electric Power Company and the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) in the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy's decommissioning and contaminated water management project.
